For my database course here is some chapter questions I answered in my first year
Database Chapter Questions
Chapter one
1. 1 Data is everything that could be factual information
about a person place or thing such as measurements where a person lives
1.2. Field is where the data is recorded such as a column in
a spreadsheet or on a piece of paper
1.3 record is where you can write the data down such as a person’s
phone number etc. and then store it into a database
1.4 file is basically what the data is stored on such as a
piece of paper or spreadsheet or on a computer
2. Data redundancy is basically when a field needs to be
updated in more than one field for an example when have to add or subtract
information in more than field
3. Some disadvantages of the file based system are concurrency access the ability for
more than one user to access the database. For an example working in the call
centre there was a certain database that only one person could access and not
multiple people. Security issues it becomes difficult for the applicant to make
sure that the proper people have the correct security privileges. Integrity
problems that the data that needs to consistent will be inconsistent. Data
inconsistency where the data gets duplicated and wastes space. Data isolation where data in multiple fields
or multiples applicants cannot get access because the data is by itself.
4. Data is
factual information facts about a person object such as measurements or a person’s
phone number. Information is everything description names anything that can be
shared.
5. 1. In
the table the file contains 7 records
5.2 there are 5 fields in the table
5.3. If you
were to list by city you would have the data duplicating itself
5.4 I would
it list by city then by street name then by street number
Chapter two
1. A Database Management system is a program that allows multiple users to
use and access multiple applications that can access and maintain the database
2. The properties of the database are
that there are no inconsistencies it is not illogical. It is built for one
purpose in mind data is store in the fields which make up table Databases can
consist of as many tables as you would like.
3. An example of a database would be a room full
of filing cabinets such as at city hall records. Another example would be the
human resources department at an office where they keep all the employees
personal records on file. Another example would be a warehouse that stores and
keep track of all things listed in the warehouse.
